St Augustine’s church is a community of faith
St. Augustine’s has always connected with the local community. An important area of ministry is pastoral visiting and the offering of communion by extension at senior residential and care homes.
The church hall is a vital community resource and is hired out on a regular basis to a number of local groups, including a Montessori Little Learners School and classes such as aerobics and kick boxing. The hall has been used for the local councillors’ surgeries, children’s parties, cultural and community organisations’ events and public meetings.
Once a year we publish a directory of members with photos to help people to get to know one another, especially those who are new to the church.
After Mass every Sunday we have a natter over a cup of coffee; everyone is warmly invited.
Each year we have a programme of days out, visits to places of interest and Pilgrimages. Recently we’ve been to the Holy Land, Rome and Assisi, Walsingham, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Salisbury, Chichester, St Alban’s, Ely, Cambridge and Canterbury.
The great events in our church year are the Family Bring & Share Picnic and the Summer Fair. This is when everyone gets involved in fund-raising and outreach into the local community.
