Accessibility and Welcome

At St Augustine’s, we want everyone to feel welcome and able to join in our worship and community life. This page provides information about accessibility at our church building and services, to help you plan your visit.

We aim to be open and honest about our facilities and are continually working to make our church as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Finding the Church

St Augustine’s Church is located at the junction of Wembley Hill Road, Preston Road, Forty Avenue and East Lane. The church is prominently visible and fairly easy to reach by car, bus or on foot.

Parking

There is parking available behind the church, including accessible parking spaces for Blue Badge holders. Drop-off near the entrance is also possible for those needing step-free access.

Getting into the Building

There is step-free access from the side door for self-manoeuvred wheelchairs, and a ramp at the back door suitable for assisted wheelchair access. Steps have handrails, and our welcome team can assist with doors before and after services.

Inside the Building

A welcome team is always on duty to greet visitors and hand out service sheets. The building is heated during winter months. The entrance leads directly into the main worship area.

Accessibility Resources
  • Large-print Bibles are available.
  • A hearing loop is installed.
  • Song lyrics and liturgy are printed on service sheets for those who need them.
  • Good lighting ensures that leaders’ faces are visible for lip-readers.

Seating and wheelchair space

Our seating consists of individual chairs without arms. Spaces can be adjusted to accommodate specific mobility needs, such as wheelchairs within the the body of the congregation, so they can be alongside family and friends.

Before the Service

There is usually gentle background music as people arrive and chat. The atmosphere is friendly but not overly noisy.

During the Service

Everyone is encouraged to sit or stand as they are able. Communion is distributed from a step-free rail. Gluten-free bread is available, please let the Vicar know if you require it.

Children usually leave for their groups during the 10.30am service.

Quiet Space

A crèche is available for young children and parents. There is also space for anyone who may need time out during the service.

After the Service

Tea and coffee are served after the service and are easily accessible. We aim to be mindful of food allergies. Please speak to a team member if you have dietary requirements.

Toilets

There are toilets available in the church, including an accessible toilet. These can be accessed discreetly during the service.
